New work in progress

Angels! I played around a little bit with L. English pattern of an angel but made the skirt wider. Then I starched them and now I have a bunch of praising Angels arriving just in time for Christmas! They are so fun to make and the multiply very quickly. They probably like the company of each other and the Bible talks often of a multitude of angels so I guess that that is as it should be :)

Sweet hubby

Bought me a birthday gift! And knowing me he went and got me some more shuttles. Can one acctually get to many? Leading question - of course not!

How fun and wonderful it was to do this!

As you may know by now I got some new thread from Tatskool and I could not wait to get started so I made heart. It's from my favorit pattern by Mary Konior from her book Visual pattern. Isn't it lovely?!

Correction!

Browsing around at e-tatters I found the original pattern for my spider so I'd like to add the address here and give due credit to Birgit! Who I think made it in the first place.
http://www.geocities.com/birgit_ph/spider.html Her spider is slightly diffrent than mine but that is mostly due to the thread I think. I want to make sure no one thinks I made her pattern my own. Best regards to Birgit!

Look what I got in my mail today!

I got rainbow colored thread from Tatskool! It is gorgeous! thank you Pamela!

My working space is slightly taken but rest assured it will clear up for this!

I have some friends...

Hi Guys!
I have got some friends around for dinner... or will they get the better of me? Only time will tell.
The big angels are by Leonore English but the small one's have been kept together with my spider. I made them some years back and I have totaly forgotten where I got the pattern from. If anybody recognize them as their own please contact me and I will be more than happy to add your name as pattern maker!

Before and after

Hi!

Do you - who have read my blog before - remember that aful time I told you about when they were hammering and drilling and and so forth. I thought it would be nice to let you see the result. Now afterwoods I can say it was worth it but it was definitely a trying time. I took a photo of another building close by and that is how our house used to look like. I hope you can see the difference.

Time and time again

I wonder how all ye folks have the time to do all your tatting! Even though this pattern was easy to follow I barely find the time and more importantly concentration to do it! Maby it is because I work at home with my phycically challanged husband (Goran got Guillian Barrés Syndrom in 2002 and was paralyzed from the ears and down, since then he has recovered toons but still needs the help of others) and when I don't work we have other assistants working 24-7. In other words, I am almost never alone when hubby doesn't need me and sometimes when he does I take care of our son. Who in himself is a challagen for mom being a very active and intelligent. I just felt I had to explain why this has taken such a long time to finish.
Well, Hubby's assistants was very happy for the gift and said she would use them at the upcoming Christening of Chalise so that was extremelly nice and grattyfing for me.
Thanks for hearing me out and thank you in advance for the comments you choose to leave! O:)

Chalise is her name

She was born on September 4th and is the daughter of one of my husbands assistants. She weighed 3.156 kilos and is the cutest thing you ever seen.

It was a girl!

And I finished the booties just an hour before they came to visit us.

No TV this time!

My work place. The time has come for me to add the medalion and there will be no tv watching with one eye! Now I just have to find some peace and quiet to do it.... he he! LoL

So far it has been a lot of fun to make and I am looking forward to see it finished.

As you can see I have a lot of help from Pamelas photos as well as Rebecca Jones book.

Futher progress

My sofa is as ever the background for my tatting. The weather here is extremly rainy and cloudy so no fun photos to add and even this photo had to be taken with a flash in spite of it being in the middle of the day.

I'm so happy!

I'm making baby booties for a dear friend of mine who's baby is due in September. And since I was watching tv with one eye... I made a mistake and closed a ring way to soon. But this time I had not pulled it closed too tight so for the first time ever I managed to open my ring!!! I usually grow so frustrated that I pull out my scissors and cut the mistake out of my project

Not this time, I made it work! Can't help but feeling so proud of myself! I'm also very indebted to Pamela at "tat a kool challenge" for her photos of her progress of her booties! It made it soo much easier to see how it is done!

I thought it would be a much bigger challenge! I may have to regret writing that but I don't mind. I promise to post a photo soon.

Last cross

Here is my final cross - for now - the pattern is from an old 'DMC Tatting for today, magazine that I got in the States 1999. I tried looking for another magazine like that but have never found one. Living in Sweden does not help either in this case!

More crosses

This is from Visual Patterns by Mary Koinor. Do you see the small buttons? I never inteded from the beginning to have them there but when I discovered that I had forgotten to attach the first one of the rings in the midle I decied that instead of starting over - I'm not good at undoing tatting - I do the same with the other rings and then figure out a way to make it stick together later. Hence the buttons! I think it turned out rather fun in the end!

Other crosses

This one is just plain black but I still like it and it is from the same book as the cross for Anette, Frivoliteter by Gun Blomqvist and Evy Persson.

A cross for Anette

Sorry that it has been such a long time since I posted anything. We have had birthdays, someone quit his job with us etc etc anyhow here I am again.

I like to show you some of the crosses I made. This one is attached to a bible cover that I also made and that one is precious to me. Not because I made it but the would be recipient, a mom of 5 children, died tragically before it was finished, and so it is a precious memory of our 15 year long friendship. Thank you Anette!

Miscellaneous!

Hi!
I have been tagged but I'm no computor expert so could someone PLEASE tell me how I link back to Marty! And as soon as I know that and I done some serious thinking about unimportant facts about me I promise I'll get back to you all!

More

Here is some more of Mary Koinor's blocks. They are great as bookmarks! And you can do a lot with blocks. Hope it was worth the wait.

Photos

Finally!

The work on the facade is finally coming to an end - at least on our side and thank heaven for that. Which meant that today I found the energy and joy to finish what I promised to show you so long ago.

I do love Mary Koinor's pattern but here I tinkered a bit with the pattern myself. I turned her block pattern into a smal handbag. You can disasamble the entire bag if you need to wash it and you can remove the handle.

onsdag 23 april 2008

Sorry about teasing you guys

I really had every intention of getting the tatting bag done and then the carpenter came... so now we have toatal chaos outside and inside our building. The dust is taking over everything, white dust dust front, center and everywhere. Can you put your entire apartment in your washing machine? And then prefably have someone else clean up the mess? I promise you ladies and gentlemen that as soon as I pull myself together I'll put the bag in the blogg! God bless!

Small teaser

Hi!

I am in the process of finishing off a tattingbag and I have used one of Mary Koinor's patterns. I have been tatting on and off for a veeeery long time on this now but I thought that I need to get it done or else it will just lie around in my basket reminding me. There is such a thing as putting a project off for too long. Today I finished the handle and now I have to get down to the lining inside the bag. I thought that if I wrote about it in my blog I would not have any choice but to get it done. I can't talk about it and then not show it. Sometime you have to out wit yourself! Hope to see you soon! Stiffening your project

The crown is stiffened with potatoflower, take a tablespoon of potatoflower with 2 cups of water, bring to a simmer and let it simmer for a few minutes. Add more water if you want it less thick. You can then apply it with eiter your fingers or a painting brush, don't burn your fingers though. Then let it dry, I found out that if you let it dry on paper it turns out better than if you let it dry on a cloth.

I know you can stiffen projects with sugare as well but I have not tried that yet. Does anyone else have more tipps on how to stiffen your tatting?

fredag 11 april 2008

At last!

I got it done! It is not a difficult pattern but with all the drilling that has gone on it became difficult. Still it was a lot of fun making it. My sweat hubby was kind enough and took the picture. Thank you!

The pattern comes from a old book - first printed in 1967 - in Swedish by the authors Gun Blomqvist and Elwy Persson. I believe it is translated to English. They have several very nice patterns in this book called 'Frivoliteter' i e Tatting in Swedish. I think it is realy neat and if you don't know any brides I'm sure small girls would love to wear one and pretend to be a princess!

Something new!

Look what I
got in my mail just the other day. A wonderful Tatting Bag from DS9Designs. Thank you Deb, I love it!
It is now my permanent 'Current project tatting bag' or a travelling bag. I do love colors! In the bag is the bridal crown I'm working on, not much to show yet but I'm beginning to see the end of it and I'll put in the blog soon.

Springflowers

These are called Blåsippor in Swedish or Blueflowers and in some parts you are not allowed to pic them since they are rare in numbers. They are pretty, arn't they? I had a wonderful weekend with long nice walks both in sunshine and with grey weather as well and absolutely no drilling within earshott!

Drilling!

Please excuse my english for now. There is a LOT of drilling going on because they are changing the facade of our building and replacing our old balconies with new ones. Since I work at home I have BIG problems putting two and two together. Tatting is definately out of the question so instead I thought that I would show you one of my tools and a dolie. The pattern is Mary Konior from her book 'Tatting with Visual Patterns' a very intructive and nice book.
I'm sure the result of the outside work will be very nice indeed but for now I don't like it a bit! I'm looking forward to the weekend when I'll get away to the countryside where it is both beauiful and quiet.

Tool

Here is a really neat tool. Originally it was used to repair silk stockings during and after WWII but it is great when you want to pic up a thread in a very smal picot. It belonged to my mother and I never had any use for it until I started on my current project. Which is a bridal crown - if that is the correct english word for it I look forwad to show you the crown but that will have to wait until the workes outside have stopped drilling. So if you see one of these don't throw it away!

I put it next to a teaspone so you'll se the sieze of it.

Something of my own design

First of all thank you all who commented on my tatting. It is soooo nice to have your opinions!

I wanted to show you something of my own design, a bracelet. Nothing too fancy, split rings and chains but it turned out rather fine I think. By now you realized that I love colours! Bye for now. Omon

Little dolies

Here is a pair of small dolies, I added the bead for fun and had them under a pair of small candel holders. But it might be difficult to see the beads.

My first go at split rings

Hallo!

This is my first try at split rings. I found the pattern on the net and now I can't remeber who made the pattern original so if anyone knows please write me so I can due credit to the one who made it!
